Well foaling time is here, the breeding season is in full swing and the shows are about to begin again.
Unfortunately Jade lost her foal (by Iva) six weeks or so ago so it was Little Miss Daisy (Dee) who was expected to be first up this year. With her having lost her first foal last season we have been more than a little bit nervous about this one so she was alarmed for quite a few weeks. Given her behaviour she wasn't too happy about being heavily pregnant but in the early hours of last Wednesday morning the alarm went off, yet again and this time it was for real. We are extremely happy to welcome Arcadia Monarch's Maverick to the stud. Maverick is the bringing together of two extremely successful bloodlines with his sire being Scott Creek Monarch Magic and his Dam, Dee being a daughter of Shortviews Princess Daisy, and as such a maternal relative to arguably the most successful NZ bred show horses in the history of Miniatures in NZ, Bluegables Little Miss Remarkable (12 Supremes) and Bluegables Monarch's Toy Matador (18 Supremes). To top this fine record off Dee's Sire is non-other than Griffin’s Abracadabra (13 + Supremes). So Maverick has some pretty impressive relatives.
In late December we will be looking forward to the arrival of our first foals from our new stallion, ERL Reflection of Revenge with both Arcadia Wizard's Dixie Chick and Kinetic Kissed by a Rose due around Christmas.
All three stallions have been busy already with Reflection being the luckiest of the boys. While he might think that this Taranaki place in New Zealand is a fair bit colder than his old home in Texas he is finding the down under girls extremely friendly. At the moment he is surrounded by in season mares and doesn't know quite what to do with himself. There are so many girls to court, what should a boy do?
The first shows kick off in October and while we haven't decided for sure yet we will probably start a week earlier than normal and head up to the Waikato for their October 7 show, followed by the Mountain Minis double show the following weekend.
We look forward to seeing Rocky out with his new owner and handler Diane Jury this show season. It is great to see one of the horses you bred bringing someone new into the sport and giving them so much pleasure. Best of luck for your first show Diane.
It is exciting to see Cate Tyrer bring the first Miniature we ever sold and the second one we bred, Arcadia Skywalker, back to Taranaki. Sky is looking really good and we can't wait to see him out in harness this show season. Good luck Cate and Sky.
Arcadia Overture's Mamma Mia is another Arcadia horse that will be out this season with a new owner. We welcome Alison Murtagh to the family of Arcadia owners and wish her and Mia all the best for the show season.
We will see some of you on the show circuit this season. Best of luck with your foaling and for the shows this season.
