January 2005

The New Year finds us on our new property.  It has been a very exciting time for us as not only do we have much more grazing, we also have greatly improved facilities for the horses.  We are still in the Inglewood area, having moved just a little bit up the road closer to the mountain.  The views are spectacular and the property a perfect one for the minis.

In the show ring 2005 has also been an exciting year - and we are only a few weeks into it.  Our first major show weekend was an outstanding success for Arcadia horses and particularly for our stallion, Overture.  The Region 4 Egmont Classic Regional Show and the Mountain Miniatures Premier Show were held on the 8th and 9th of January.  With two top AMHA judges and the entry numbers far beyond any other show besides the NZMHA National, the results we achieved are all the more special.

Two of our foals, Madonna and Shania had their first show outing.  They were so good at clipping and leading though there is still some work to be done on this standing still business!  The yearlings, Eva and Rocky showed the babies how it should be done and gave their best in every class.  We strongly believe that the show ring is the place for us to prove the quality of our breeding programme and we took great pride in taking out four horses all carrying our stud name.

Highlights from the show were:

Arcadia Overtures We Will Rock You

The Overture babies have certainly done their sire proud and it is with great pleasure we add their names to the trophies under those of other Arcadia Futurity Champions.  A big thank you to all those who helped us out particularly in the evening classes.  Special thanks to Melissa Hiestand - the horses loved her and she did a fantastic job.

A week later we were also thrilled to see Faylaurs Overtures Harlequin take Supreme Champion at Taranaki A&P Show.  Congratulations to Fay and Sharon and our thanks for the effort you have put into training and showing this beautiful Overture colt - he looks a million dollars out there and his win was well deserved.  We can see why this breeding has been repeated for a 2005 foal.

We are now starting our preparations for the biggest event of the year, the NZMHA National Show, held just down the road in Hawera in March.  It provides another chance to take our Arcadia horses out in top company and under a team of three respected international judges.  We can't wait - but with a big team to organise it is going to be very busy from here on.  In between that we have a couple of mares still to breed and the usual rounds of pregnancy tests, vaccinations of foals etc to be taken care of.  Never a quiet day on the farm, but we can always make time for visitors. If you are passing through Taranaki, give us a call and we'll put the kettle on.
